A. The main roads are fine but many of the less traveled ones can be rough to negotiate although they are passable. From May 1st through December 1st is the rainy season so it is advisable to get a 4 wheel drive and at the very least front wheel drive. Keep in mind that there are no shoulders on the road and the locals will often disregard the motorists hence increasing the risk of an accident. Be very careful, follow the speed limits and use your seat belt and of coarse do not consume alcohol when driving. The local police will enforce these rules. Keep a copy of your passport and driver’s license with you at all times, especially when you are driving. If you get lost it is very safe to stop and ask the locals for directions and most of them speak English.
